Profile Information

What does 'sustainability' mean to you?
skillsets empowering continued existence; endurance; bearing up
What do you do to try and live green and what would you like to learn more about?
We have long supported local green organizations through volunteer efforts. Web activism is essential. We practice xeric gardening. We conserve water and recycle gray water. We recycle plastics, glass, and paper. We use energy-saving appliances and computers. We use our own grocery bags.

But we're real about it. We're just average. We don't care for group hugs. We don't wear cloth shoes or refuse to drive cars. (I AM typing on a computer powered by our ol' pal PNM, qué no?) We eat non-organic popcorn.

We are always eager to learn more, in general.
What concerns you most about the issues facing the environment, whether locally or globally?
I worry about greener-than-thou-ists who urge us to "consume more to consume less". A recent green hint suggested we get rid of our vinyl shower curtains because "vinyl is harmful to dispose of." We need to "walk the walk" before we talk the talk.

Another concern is population growth. The more of us, the more we use, the more we burn to use it, and the more space we take to bury what's left.

Finally, we must find a way of making "green" more commercially competitive. Now, too often, it costs too much to sell.
