Sustainability means living within limits- energy limits specifically, as energy is the enabler of life. Someone once said to me "you won't know if how you're living is sustainable until long into the future- if you're still living then, you were doing something right". Of course we've been able to "borrow" energy from fossil fuels, but to be truly sustainable we need to live within the limits of renewable resources- available sun, wind, water, etc.... Sustainability is a dream that most of western culture is soo far from actually living, but I love the dream that is sustainability!!!
What do you do to try and live green and what would you like to learn more about?
I try to minimize my energy consumption and to offset my carbon footprint. I try to buy local, support CSA's and other local entrepreneurs. I try to limit my driving by carpooling and combining tasks. I stay home instead...
What concerns you most about the issues facing the environment, whether locally or globally?
I am saddened by the loss of so many diverse and beautiful species across the globe... Life is a gift that humans seem to horde- at the expense of other forms of life. We are all connected, but seem to thrive on partitioning the environment. This of course limits the viability of so many other species, in terms of their ability to migrate/mate/thrive. Climate change is also concerning to me...
