Profile Information

What does 'sustainability' mean to you?

To "sustain" something is to keep it going, so sustainability is the quality of being nondestructive at least, and regenerative or restorative at best. Our challenge is to discover and implement what is truly sustainable rather than continuing to dress up our old, unsustainable ways with things that feel green.

What do you do to try and live green and what would you like to learn more about?

I am working to shift the balance of power for greater equity, and restore a government of the people. Imagine having a government that worked to ensure that essential infrastructures, such as the power grid, highway system, and food systems, were operated in the public interest. That's the scale we need to think about if we are going to get out of this one!

What concerns you most about the issues facing the environment, whether locally or globally?

The loss of biodiversity, it has been said, is the thing that our grandchildren will least forgive us for. Destroying several billions of years of evolution, in which the sun produced a biota so complex, diverse and resilient that it enables tens of millions of species to coexist in harmony and balance, is a sad legacy to leave. The key to stopping the destruction is to recognize the powerful role that control of the energy supply has played, take the control away from the destructive elements that still have it, and put it back in the democratic hands of the people.
