AP's story on the desire of Arizona cities to acquire agriculture water has a familiar ring.

In particular I like this quote: "We don't want to get into a situation of saying 'My use is better than yours,' " said Tom Davis, general manager of the Yuma County Water Users Association. "But there needs to be a better way than just whoever has the most money gets the most water."

Arizona's cities, along with Las Vegas, Nev and southern California all share the Colorado River. NM's two largest cities will rely on a share of the water as well coming from the San Juan River, a Colo River tributary, piped under the Continental Divide into Heron Lake where it eventually runs into the Rio Grande. Albuquerque already has it's RG diversion project up and running; Santa Fe's is under construction.

Meanwhile, in Peru, Alan Garcia Perez has ordered the construction of 100 dams and 30 reservoirs to prepare for dry times ahead with climate change.
